Together in Jamaica!

Come be a part of a life changing experience this summer (2010) as we kickoff our partnership with the Caribbean NYI! Space is limited so check out all the info and register today!

Caribbean Partnership

At the 2009 Global NYI Convention it was announced that South Central USA NYI would become prayer and servant partners with the Caribbean NYI. We are excited about this new partnership and connecting in a variety of ways over the next quadrennium. To initiate this partnership we have been invited to attend their largest regional event, CARYCAC (Caribbean Youth Camp and Conference) in August 2010. This event is open to students and leaders as a way of connecting with our partner region and establishing relationships to further our partnership. We anticipate a team of 40+ from around our region will make the trip and return with a passion for the future of our partnership with the Caribbean NYI.

What is CARYCAC?

For the Caribbean NYI, this is their NYC. However, it is vastly different from our USA/Canada event. There is much less razzle-dazzle and the venue is not a multi-million dollar facility. It will have more of a “camp meets mission trip” feel in many ways and will give everyone a chance to connect with students and leaders from around the Caribbean Region as we worship, serve, and partner together.

Meals

All meals will be provided beginning Sunday (8/1) through Saturday (8/7). Exact meal times and menus will not be available until our arrival in Jamaica. You may desire to bring a small amount of money for snacks throughout the week. However, we cannot guarantee availability of stores or specific food items. If you have specific dietary needs or food allergies you must be responsible to bring appropriate food with you.

Packing

Regarding clothing, shorts are okay for the daytime but many of the Caribbean’s will dress up more for the evening services. There will be a nice dinner one evening where the girls will even wear dresses and the guys will have on ties. There will also be a day of mission work where you will need work clothes.

Don’t forget you will need towels, soap, and bedding. Keep it simple. You do not need a clean towel for every day. Just one or two will do.

The airline allows two bags at a maximum of 50 pounds each. But, it is highly recommended that you bring only one! What you bring you will have to transport and it could be long distances at times. You are also allowed one carry-on bag. Check out the following website for all the rules and regulations regarding bags: http://www.aa.com/i18n/travelInformation/baggage/carryOnAllowance.jsp?amp;anchorEvent=false

Passport Required!

Cost is $100 and will take approximately 2 months to process. Everyone must secure this on your own.

Note: This cost is NOT included in the total trip cost. Information at: http://travel.state.gov/

For those under 18

You will need to have BOTH parents sign a Minor Permission Form. We are requiring this as a safety precaution as some countries do require it. If your parents are divorced, you still MUST have signatures from both parents. It also must be signed by a notary public. The form is available below.

Please mail the completed form to Rev. Justin Pickard, 825 N. Cockrell Hill Rd. DeSoto, TX 75115 - by June 1.

Blessed are the Flexible! Anytime you travel to another country you never know exactly what to expect. We will be the guests of the Caribbean but are not going there to be served. We will be working side by side with our brothers and sisters from another culture. You will encounter things that are different from what you are use to. You will learn how they live and love and serve. Your attitude from start to finish must be that of a humble servant, blessed to be able to participate in such an exciting adventure.
